Why I'm here
To balance the needs of moving the school forward while maintaining a high standard of learning. |
Through the Erasmus+ Project we strive to develop a strategy in our school that will allow our school to move forward and be the premier school for Bilingual education in Hungary. In order to do this it is important to develop the strategies that will allow us to gauge the success of our school against set standards.
The basic project of this conference was to showcase schools considered good or exceptional and speak with the people responsible for bringing the schools to this high level. Another aspect was to look at the procedures used to evaluate school. This is done in all UK schools through Ofsted. We had the opportunity to meet with a retired inspector and ask questions about the process. My Prezi Presentation

The Vibe
I came here with the knowledge that this course would not be about new techniques to use in the classroom but how schools are evaluated in the UK. It became quite clear to me that there are many issues to consider when looking at the quality of a school. There is the retention of staff, the many different cultures of the students attending the school, the socio-economic background of the students, etc., etc., etc.. The effort that administrators put forth to keep the schools in compliance is daunting. The amount of time that teachers spend documenting their work was surprising to me.
One of the issues that I did hear a lot from, from administrators, was turnover. Many new teachers will only stay for a couple of years as they realize the amount of time and effort that go into preparing takes away from their social life. This coupled with other factors lead them to take other jobs outside teaching.
You do see the devotion that is paid to the students by the work that is done through and Ofsted via the administrators at the individual schools we looked at. You see the quality of the education. You see the success of the students.
